BITS Pilani’s annual cultural festival Oasis, that kickstarts on the 31st of October, brings with it a plethora of exciting events, some of the best talent from across the country and a lifetime of memories. Having set the bar very high with the previous editions, Oasis ’17 promises to be one of the most spectacular festivals this year. So here are 5 events you should definitely check out when you’re there.
Be it the catchy rhythm of Anna Kendrick or the calm and breezy voice of Bobby McFerrin; experience a cappella at its best at Pitch Perfect. With diverse participants, Pitch Perfect is the platform for a growing crowd of a cappella enthusiasts to face off against each other. A battle of bands with no instruments, this symphony of voices at the Main Auditorium is establishing a new dimensionality of music vastly unexplored till date. Last year’s edition of Oasis saw a participation of 4 highly talented teams who left the crowd mesmerized. Oasis ‘17 will have a major boost in participation with over 10 teams from across the country expected to participate.
Choreo, the dance event organized by the Department of Theatre features contemporary dance performances by teams from colleges around the country. After the initial elimination round, about eight to ten teams are shortlisted for the final round. The final round features contemporary dance performances that are usually based on a certain theme. Teams are judged on the basis of their body language, expressions, and innovation, along with costume, theme portrayal, coordination, and overall impact.
Brace yourselves to witness breathtaking enthusiasm, catchy phrases and songs, crisp expressions, humor, and loudness. Street Play, which has continued over the years in rendering the crowd speechless and leaving a long-lasting and powerful effect on its viewers by revolutionizing concepts and focusing on pressing matters in the society. With 8 teams participating almost every year, Street play has grabbed immense attention so much so that Mr. Arvind Gaur from Asmita Theater, who has mentored major cinema and theatre actors like Kangana Ranaut and Sonam Kapoor in the past, have made it a point to judge the event every year!

Tarang- a musical extravaganza from the Indian heartland, witnesses participation from colleges all across the country with genres spanning from Sufi to metal fusion. The event is held in the wee hours of the morning, not putting an end to the insomniac streak of the music lovers in the main auditorium. With more than 10 teams coming for Tarang last Oasis, this event witnesses spectacular performances from the bands who come up with their original compositions as well as covers of popular songs.
