Meet, Deeksha Rathore, now a third year BBM student & a brilliant photographer. She always had an interest in photography but only thought of actively pursuing it when she came into the second year of college.
I’ve always loved taking photographs and have been encouraged by my parents more than once to take it up as a hobby. We try to make at least one trip to Corbett every year. It was in the forest, clicking pictures with my digital camera, that I began getting more serious about it. On my last birthday, my parents gifted me a DSLR. I’ve been using it for filmmaking and photography ever since.
She recently completed a photography project ‘Dreamcatcher’ for her college. It is a series of 12 diptychs highlighting the contrast between an individual’s current & childhood dream job. She talks about how the inspiration for this project struck her on one of the several occasions when she panicked about her future. Her mother always told her that one seldom ends up following the path they thought they would, and that’s alright. So, that’s when she decided to capture this to the best of her ability by talking to people in various professions and asking them what they wanted to do when they were children.
Deeksha also talks about the overwhelming response she got from some of the people, which is what made the entire process even more fulfilling for her.
The mere act of pulling out an army jacket, or an air hostess badge evoked so many emotions. It gave them a chance to experience what could have been, even if only for a moment.
The purpose of this project isn’t to determine whether there is a feeling of regret or relief amongst these individuals. As the photographer, I’ve simply tried to contrast a dream and a reality through my lens.
Take a look at her brilliant project yourselves:
As a child, Deeksha wanted to be an artist, but she has now realized that dreams change. So, now she sees herself doing something in the filmmaking space, adding that maybe a few years down the line she might be doing something completely different!
Either way, we can’t wait to see the next amazing creation of hers! Also, don’t forget to check out her Instagram page for some more of her incredible pictures.
