Never a stranger to the performance stage, Rachit Singh, third year student of Bcom from Mithibai College, is an Indie, Hip-hop and RnB artist who will soon be coming up with his own mixtape for which he has written, produced and performed.

Rachit started writing rhymes and poems when he was in the fifth grade and ventured into rapping five years later, but it was only when he joined college that he began to seriously consider rapping as an art form and began creating his own original songs.

I’ve been performing on the stage since I was in school, both as a rapper and as a spoken word artist. Getting on the stage is something I’ve always loved. My first college performance was in first year at Mumbai Youth Festival where I ended up in Top Two but couldn’t win. But it was a very good experience and it taught me the art of performing at college festivals.

This love surely did take him to some of the biggest stages, including those of Malhar, Mood Indigo, Cutting Chai, Vaayu, Papparazzi and more.

Rachit’s inspirations come from a list of some of the greatest musicians of all time, which include Mick Jagger, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. Moved by the works of contemporary artists, Kanye West and Frank Ocean, who according to Rachit, are very passionate about their art and challenge society’s stereotypes, he hopes to one day create his own music which will show the world how he feels.

Finding his voice in college, Rachit feels grateful to his college friends for inspiring him to participate in more and more fests and thereby helping him succeed in his art. He hopes that more and more kids will use the platform provided by college fests to explore and share their talents with the world.

Unstoppable in his quest to make the most of his musical talent, Rachit already has several gigs lined up and will soon be releasing his mixtape on YouTube, so be sure to look out for that!
