This Artist Covered Pari Hoon Main, And It’s Perfect!
Meet Dhruvi Singh: an advertising major at SM Shetty Powai, and the brilliant vocalist at The Family. Here’s her rock version of Pari Hoon Main.
When Dhruvi Singh moved to Mumbai, she felt like she had to reconstruct her entire life. Her home in the U.A.E., amongst her friends and family, was where she felt most comfortable. She went to Delhi Private School, and would sing for their choir. Their school’s Annual Day would be the highlight of her academic year – over the course of her school life, she had performed Sound of Music, their own theatre production called Garam Masala, amongst the many other musicals that only deepened her love for music.
Moving to Mumbai was difficult, but she realised that she had music – the one thing that she could not let go of, even if she travelled to the other end of the world. “I looked up backing tracks to songs I wanted to cover, and turned my mother’s webcam on, sang, and put it up on YouTube. And that’s how it all began,” she said.
2 years later, she thought she was ready to take the big step into music, and started a band. Their first gig was at the opening of Punjab Grill in Andheri West, and her performance left her “beyond mortified”, because for the first time she wasn’t performing for people she knew and loved, but for a completely unknown audience. “I’m glad it happened to me, cause it helped me get my act together.”
She has, since then, performed at The Times Bandra Fest, Tuning Fork (now The Habitat), Raasta Bombay, High Spirits Cafe, Headlining for Oktoberfest Goa, headlined at college events, club events, corporate shows, amongst others, with her band The Family. Aside from the band and college, Dhruvi and Johaan, a member of The Family, own a full time music production studio in Goregaon West, and create music for YouTubers, artists from the independent music scene, ad films, and feature films! They have also worked on the music for Minute Maid Pulpy Orange, I Pill, Lenovo, Dell, Uber Kolkata, Intel, IPAA, W.H.O., and many more.
“Everything around me inspires me, everyday. Maybe an emotion my mom’s feeling, or something I saw while travelling on my way to work, everything acts as a step towards something inspirational, which is very obvious in the Originals we’re releasing this year. We’re meant to connect with everyone who listens to us, and that’s fully what we intend to do.”
