The Incredible Artist From Mumbai
Alisha Firdos Poonawala, our latest Boombox talent, who is in the 12th grade in the commerce stream at Barnes School and Junior College, Deolali, is an amazing artist. Her artwork is nothing short of spectacular and a look at her fine artwork are enough to convey that.
She calls herself a self-taught artist who started off with her art due to sheer boredom. Alisha always fancied doodling on her notebooks but a time came when a few of her friends encouraged her to push her artwork beyond her notebooks. This led to her experimenting with drawing on phone covers. With appreciation coming in for that, she started Scribbled – a platform for selling her creativity on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
It is the ability to create and curate something out of her love for design that drives her to do what she does best. When asked about any role models, she has two of them in her head – Quentin Blake and Matt Groening, who she says, form a pivotal part of her childhood.
Alisha feels lucky to have had support from people around her. When she received her first canvas order, her art teacher helped her with the framing, paint selection, etc. She also thinks that college fests should encourage more talent like her, especially the shy ones, to break the mould and come out with their talent.
This budding artist has her eyes set for a colourful future and only wants to keep learning more and perfecting her craft. We’re totally rooting for her art to go miles ahead.
