Are you whiling away your time doing nothing but binge watching TV Shows and sipping on iced tea? Would you rather do something productive and help the people who really need your time and effort?

Then this is your chance to do exactly that.

The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC), St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai is a state-of-the-art support and advocacy unit for persons with blindness and low vision. One of its key projects is making education inclusive and accessible for such individuals. But the biggest hurdle to inclusive education is the lack of accessible books.

As XRCVC tries to reach out to more students at the school level, and attempts to promote math and science education among the blind (a traditional taboo area), lack of content is becoming a huge challenge. It therefore needs to create content on a massive scale.

Traditionally, XRCVC has created content with the help of volunteers. While the volunteer programs help immensely, this is no longer enough to meet the demand.

Hence, XRCVC is opening up book content creation jobs on a full time/part time basis.

The content created will be part of a national accessible online library aiming to increase availability of books to the print-disabled (sugamyapustakalaya.in)

The work will involve scanning, editing, typing Word documents to make soft copy accessible versions of hard copy books following the XRCVC book content standards. You will also be trained in this, and there is an option to work on tactile diagrams and alternative text description.

This is what you need- an enthusiastic mind with an eye for detail, good computer and typing skills, patience & perseverance at editing & cleaning text.

For those of you who are studying currently can opt for part time options, while fresh graduates who are looking out for something in the meantime can also apply.

Also, there are no age/qualification restrictions, so help spread this to anyone you know who has free time and would like to contribute and get some cash on the side for it!

For those of you who are interested in this, can send an email to Neha Trivedi – neha@xrcvc.org.

Your little time & effort will make a huge difference in the lives of a lot of people.
