College festivals form a huge part of our college lives, becoming some of the most memorable days to look back upon. And those who are incidental in bringing to life their beloved college festivals, vouch that it was an experience they will remember for a lifetime. These dynamic organising committee members are the reason these college festivals are as great as they are but, what happens to their interests and passions once they graduate from college? Do they continue to pursue them? Or do they fade away once these students step into the real world?
Today, we have one such alumnus who started weaving stories with his camera since the first year of college and has been doing that, plus a lot more, ever since.
Meet Hrishikesh Singh, alumnus of VES College’s BMM Batch of 2016, who started off with taking care of photography for his college fest ‘Impressions’ and went all the way up to heading the Events & Creative department by the last year of college.
Currently pursuing his MA in Mass Communication & Journalism from KPB Hinduja College, Hrishikesh loved covering the stage and sports events, especially Fashion & Music.
Initially I started with shooting music primarily because there was so much happening at these shows. My thought was that if I could freeze these moments for others to see, my job there is done. That’s somewhat how I got into shooting rock and metal music. All this also resulted in getting inspired from the music as well. From discovering new bands to understanding different cultures, music and gigs both opened a new world to learn from.
Hrishikesh feels that the best colleges are the ones that let you enjoy your space without any restrictions or being bureaucratic about permissions.
Festivals were successful in what group projects failed. I think the concept of teamwork finally got instilled only after the pressure of putting up a show with limited resources was introduced, so everyone did come together as one and work like their life depended on it.
Over the years, Hrishikesh branched out into video and writing, along with photography. What he’s taken from it is that no matter what medium one is into, it is largely about stories and narratives. And bringing out the best of the stories that are out there in the world is exactly what this multi-talented student aims to do.
Signing off, this is his valuable advice to all college students,
Do all your revolutionary and disruptive experiments in these college fests. Don’t spare a single idea. It’s the best show there is, that lets you work without a brief. Minus the politics.
Being such an amazingly talented student, we are sure Hrishikesh is going to soar greater heights in the time to come. To check out some more of his incredible work (you should, trust me) you can follow his Instagram page.
