Revealing The Phenomenal Lineup Of The Malhar Conclave
Since 2009, Malhar Conclave has proven to be a distinct platform where the visions of esteemed personalities amalgamate with the budding thoughts of young individuals. In the past, the first day of the festival has been a glorious host to figures like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Shabana Azmi, Anurag Kashyap, Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Dr. Shashi Tharoor among many others. We are super excited to announce the phenomenal Malhar Conclave Lineup of 2019.
The Malhar keynote has always been a session of enterprising individuals making an exemplary difference in their individual arenas. This year, the Keynote Session will be a spectator to not one, but two refreshing individuals whose ideologies and accomplishments are instances of excellence.
SIR MARK TULLY
A two-time Padma Bhushan awardee in 1992 and 2005, Sir William Mark Tully is one of the most prolific journalists the world has seen. He headed the BBC, New Delhi, as Chief of Bureau for a period of twenty years, covering all major incidents in Asia during his tenure, including the Bhopal Gas tragedy, Operation Blue Star, Demolition of the Babri Masjid and the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots
A public interest litigator, Ms Katju, over the years has over 100 cases to her credit, including white collar defense, legal aid, and the historic LGBTQ+ rights litigation. With notable cases including the Agusta Westland case, the 2G spectrum case, the Jessica Lal murder case, and most recently, the Section 377 case, Ms. Katju has been a champion for equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community since the beginning.
DR SRINATH RAGHAVAN
With a BSc in Physics from the University of Madras and his MA and PhD in War Studies from King’s College London, Dr. Raghavan is a glorious recipient of the K Subrahmanyam Award for Strategic Studies (2011) and the Infosys Prize for Social Sciences (2015). Presently he is a professor of International Relations and History at Ashoka University.
Panel discussion are a highlight of Conclave. It is a platform where relevant issues are questioned and deliberated that invokes a sense of imagination and awareness.
Levelling The Playing Field : Women in Sports
In the past few decades, the world of sports has been revolutionary with women figures setting examples that have broken stereotypes and created role models for the world to admire. The panel consists of Vaidehi Vaidya who is one of the first individuals in India to have completed a Football Industries MBA from the University of Liverpool.It also includes Pinki Jangra who is a flyweight boxer from Haryana. With massive success in domestic competitions, Ms. Jangra won the Bronze medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The other two eminent personalities of the panel are Sanika Divekar who has been a national Table Tennis player for the last 10 years and has now become an instrumental figure in the shaping of sports in India; and Aparna Popat who is a prominent face of badminton who has been a part of 2 Olympic Games, 1 Asian Games, and won a Silver Medal at the World Junior Championships in 1996.
The War Over Water : INDIA’S Worrisome Future
Today, almost the entire stretch of the nation is encircled by the dearth of water resources and is a victim to the daunting crisis. A diverse panel of experts aims to discuss the crux of the situation and instill a wave of consciousness. The panel consists of Dr. Jayanta Bandyopadhyay, Samrat Basak, Shripad Dharmadhikary and Chandra Bhushan. It is moderated by Keya Acharya. Prof. Bandyopadhyay is a leading figure in public interest research, environment and development in the mountains, river basin governance in South Asia, etc. Mr. Samrat Basak has worked across India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia on integrated water management projects. Chandra Bhushan is an environmentalist and a prolific researcher, writer and campaigner for sustainable development.
The interactive session is that aspect of Malhar Conclave that is often been a much looked forward part of the entire event. The absorbing discussions and a panel that appeals to the interests of every individual, makes the Interactive Session such an indispensable facet of Malhar Conclave.
Team Tarini was the first ever all women Indian crew to circumnavigate the Earth, and they completed their landmark expedition in May of 2018. The team comprises of Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi (skipper), Lieutenant Commander Pratibha Jamwal, Lieutenant Commander P Swathi, Lieutenant Aishwarya Boddapati, Lieutenant Vijaya Devi and Lieutenant Payal Gupta.
Raghav Meattle is a singer and songwriter. He is trained in Hindustani classical and has been part of a band in college. He shot to fame after he auditioned for Season 2 of The Stage, India’s first home-grown English singing talent hunt show.
This year, Malhar Conclave organises the screening of the film ‘Newton’, that was India’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy awards. To accompany the event this year we have Ms. Anupama Chopra, Mayank Tewari and the editor Ms. Shweta Venkat who have been a dominant part of this film and have made a mark by their contribution in the bollywood landscape.
With the Malhar Concert energising every heartbeat amidst the lights of the first quadrangle, we bring to you artists whose music speaks volumes about the journey they have embarked on. The concert is graced by Kaam Bhaari, Spitfire and SlowCheeta. Kunal Pandgale, a 20 year old rapper, goes by the name Kaam Bhaari. This Mumbai based rapper, has a unique rapid-fire rhyming style. Nitin Mishra aka Spitfire, is a 20 year old young man from Madhya Pradesh, one of the most remarkable rising rappers today. He is one of the lead writers for the hit song “Asli Hip Hop” from the blockbuster movie “Gully Boy”. SlowCheeta or Chaitnya Sharma is a Mumbai based rapper, music composer, actor and theatre artist. In 2017, he worked on a rap song ‘Don’t hold back’ with Ranveer Singh. He also starred in the movie Gully Boy alongside Spitfire and Kaam Bhaari
