The Government of India established five Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research in 2006, on the recommendation of the Scientific Advisory Councik to the Prime Minister. With an aim to provide the best infrastructure and the highest standard of education to its pupils, each of the five IISERs situated at Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal and Thiruvananthapuram excel at nurturing curiosity and ingenuity among its students.
The students of IISER-P organize an inter-college science challenge called Mimamsa. The chief objective of this high-octane intellectual science competition is to make it the most conceptually challenging event at this level in the country. The students have also been the organizers of other fests such as Karavaan and Scifest, both of which are steadily growing in magnitude and have attracted local, upcoming performers as well as artists and talent of national acclaim.
