This Bollywood Collab Brings The World Closer

Every so often, we come across collaborations that are not only musically ingenious, but also have an amazing purpose. One such collaboration is #SingWithSAMAA, an initiative by a Chicago-based group to bring the world closer in their own little way. Their latest collaboration featured people from all over the world sing a fusion of some of the most well-loved Bollywood tracks, and what makes the video even more special is that it features our very own Rajlakshmi Sengupta!

The last time we spoke, Rajlakshmi had covered ‘City of Stars’ at the Talent Tent. Since then, she has been giving music a lot more attention, training for her Hindustani Classical vocal music exams, and gearing up for the college fest season. She had been a fan of Samaa for a long time, but she only found out about the #SingWithSAMAA through her friends who pushed her into sending them her entry. She wasn’t expecting any replies at all, but was thrilled when she was told that her entry was selected! Not only that, but they also wrote so many kind, encouraging words.

This collaboration gave her a huge boost of confidence, she adds. They also used a part of her video as a demo on Instagram and Facebook before posting the final video.

She ends the conversation with this heartfelt note:

Singing along with so many people from different parts of the world was a thrilling experience, and they were all immensely talented. It is also what makes this initiative by Samaa so unique and heart touching – knowing that music is all that is needed to connect so many people from all over the world. Knowing that music is enough. It is enough to bring about feelings of togetherness.

Currently, Rajlakshmi is trying to maintain a balance between her music and her studies, and is looking for more gigs to perform at in Delhi.
