Kathak Routine on ‘Kanha Re’

Raghav Monga, a student from Sri Venkateswara College in Delhi, sent us his Kathak routine on the T-series track, ‘Kanha Re’, originally sung by Neeti Mohan and performed by Neeti, Shakti, and Mukti Mohan. Watch his performance here.

We first met Raghav, a purveyor of the dance form, at a festival at Hansraj College last year, when he performed a folk dance called ‘Lambadi’ from Andhra Pradesh. The year before that, he had performed ‘Muria,’ from Chattisgarh. “As we move towards the future, we’re forgetting our culture. We have to preserve our art forms. We can’t let them die out,” said the performer.

Raghav has been dancing for almost a decade now, and studied dancing under Guru Shika Khare, who was the star disciple of Sri Birju Maharaj. He has a degree from Prayog Sangeet Samiti, Allahbad, where he studied for seven years. He was a student at the National Institute of Kathak, and has performed at the National Youth Festival for five years.  Raghav as also performed on television, on Doordarshan.

He loves the stage, and wishes to continue dancing.
