Amazing Cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’

Through ATKT’s Boombox, talented students across the country have been able to showcase to the world their phenomenal skills. After bringing to you the story of the fabulous rapper– Ashutosh, we’re back to feature yet another talented singer from Delhi – Uday Manhas.

Even though Uday has never been trained formally in his chosen form of art, he is still considered a distinguished performer in the college music circuit; and after you watch this video, you’ll probably know why:

Talking about what got him inclined towards pursuing music he responds- a music cassette of Celine Dion in my Walkman! Just the music and it’s beauty caught me so much that I felt connected to it. Great music like Green day, Coldplay and Snow Patrol really pulled me towards soft rock.

Uday started performing in Middle School and remembers his first performance singing a cover of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ when he was just 9 years old. In the 11th standard, he was able to pull off ‘21 Guns’ with his school band.

That was the time when people really started to know me. They started calling me the ‘Billie Joe Armstrong’ of Delhi. The performance received good appreciation and my stage fear almost demolished. Also, I had a habit of stuttering, so I had to really collect myself to go to the stage at that time. But I didn’t stutter when I performed!

After coming to making it to IP University in Delhi, Uday took part in numerous competitions, and was the only IP University student to get shortlisted amongst the ‘Extremely Talented’ Delhi University folks. Apart from that, he performed at DTU, NSIT, IIIT Delhi, IIT Delhi, NIFT & a number of other noteworthy festivals in the college circuit. Not having gone to any music school didn’t stop this young singer from achieving what he wanted to- he practiced day and night, watching videos on YouTube and learning as much as he could, striving to improve with each passing day.

I won my first competition this year bagging the first prize at Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, (DU).

Uday draws inspiration from musicians like Ed Sheeran and Prateek Kuhad and aspires to become a songwriter who is able to connect with the masses.

When people are able to spare even a minute of their life listening to me and I’m able make them feel light in that moment, is what drives me to sing. I wish to create more such memories.

Uday only wishes to keep learning and exploring in the future and also plans to formally learn the artform while still growing as a performer. We’re sure going to see a lot more of this talented singer in the near future!
